Bele Chere

We’re finally over the hump at work! Things should be slowing down and I can focus on life again: )

A great way to spend my first free Saturday was for me and Rob to head up to Asheville for the Belle Chere Festival! This is my third year in a row.

Our first stop was lunch at the Laughing Seed, the best vegetarian food ever! I even got to drink some kombucha on draft, which was pretty tasty. Then we walked around in the sweltering looking at all the booths of crafts and local organizations. I visited the Sensodyne booth and got about 9 free samples and a tooth brush, I do love their tooth paste.

We then met up with Rob’s old coworkers at Humongo (formally known as Plaid), who are on their 4th annual tour across the US. We had some yummy chocolatey drinks and a lavender soda at a sweet shop and then a few beers, some mead and a sweet tea at one of the local bars. It was great seeing them again! We are super excited for them and their tour. Be sure to check them out yourselves!

My week

Well, it’s statement time again at work. Which means working till 10 pm each night and even on the weekends. Crazy times!! So when you get your 401k statement in the mail, remember a lot of work went in to getting it to you^_~

So I obviously didn’t really have much of a week, but here are the highlights of my week!

+ Getting felt samples for my store (still being hush hush about it)

+ Eating Pita Pit.

+ Seeing my boss’s kids, they are just so cute!

+ Going to see Inception, this movie was just so so awesome!!

+ All the big thunder storms we’ve been having

+ Reading with my nook<3

We are over the hump now and things should start slowing down. And this weekend we’re going to Asheville for the Bele Cher festival and say hello to Humongo (formally known as Plaid), who’s on tour again!!

4th of July weekend

This weekend Rob’s friends came down to celebrate 4th of July weekend with us. We’ve been having a blast! Eating, drinking, playing video games, cigars.

Eileen made me a painting for my birthday. I love it!

On the actual day of the 4th, we were joined by Rob’s parents and my friend Stephanie from work and her husband Derrick and their dog Lola. There was more eating, drinking, cigars, air soft guns, some beer pong and of course FIREWORKS!

Hope everyone had a great weekend too!

My Week

We’ve been without the AC all week over here. The guy needs to order some parts and we should have cool air this coming week (thank god!) Needless to say it’s pretty damn hot!

I’ve been avoiding going upstairs as much as I can. Also Rob wasn’t so busy with freelancing, so we’ve been spending our evenings watching movies downstairs. It’s kind of nice being lazy like that!

Some notable stuff we watched:

Book of Eli

Youth in Revolt

Bones Season 1

and we went to the gloriously cool movie theaters and saw Get Him to the Greek.

I did manage to squeeze in some crafty time and make my dad a neck pillow for Father’s Day. He actually liked it and says it’s perfect for him on the couch, hee hee, hey as long as he likes it^_~

I’m slowly added my photos from Japan to my Flickr account. I should have the first two days up by tonight and the rest throughout the week.

Also, I learned that my bid sister is engaged! They plan on getting married not this November, but the next. I told her I’d love to design her invitations, should be fun!

Well, I’m only 29 for one more week! I need to enjoy the last few days of being in my twenties. Maybe Friday I’ll stay up till 12 because that’s super late and I can sleep in till 8. Oooh^_~

My Week

Meet Mr. Fox! He’s pretty much all I’ve been doing this week: ) I made him from the book Sew Me, Love Me. He’s supposed to have pants, but the ones I made look goofy and I think I like him as is. I also added gave him a neck and a collar to hold up his neck. I love how he came out!

We also finally bought paint for the office. I’m so excited to give it some color. Once we get new carpets, I’ll be moving my stuff and sharing the room with Rob.

Other than that, it’s been pretty chill around here. We watched My Neighbor Totoro, it was Rob’s first time seeing it. I love this movie so much! I could watch it again tonight: )

I hope to start on some more crafts this week. I do need to work on my dad’s Father’s Day gift, which I think will be a neck pillow, like the ones I made before.

Well, kind of short this week. See ya!

My Week

This week was all about getting back to the real world. We spent the first part of the week in almost a zombie like state. It’s true when people say they need a vacation from their vacation.

It is good to be back home though. We miss Japan terribly, but each day gets a bit easier. I’m also starting to get excited about being able to do projects around the house again, now that we have time and some money again. First thing is new carpets! I told Rob I’d like that to be my birthday present. We were going to go look at samples and such this weekend, but they were closed for Memorial Day. Next week then!

It’s definitely summer here! We fixed ourselves margaritas this weekend, which was so perfect. See the last post for the recipe we use.

I also got some lawn chairs I’ve been wanting at Lowes. These are perfect to relax in the grass and get some sun.

I also got a pitcher plant! I hear carnivorous plants help keep fruit flies away. We always get fruit flies and such around the house during the summer. I really hope it works!

In ReadyMade magazine’s last issue, there was an article on how to make your own yogurt. I love yogurt! It helps keep my tummy in check and it’s like the only dairy I can eat a lot of and I love dairy. This recipe seems so easy to make. All you need is a bit of yogurt and some milk. Heat the milk, let it cool a bit, add some yogurt, leave out in a sealed jar for a few hours, chill, then presto yogurt! It makes sense, the bacteria in the original yogurt spreads throughout the heated milk since it’s such a yummy and comfy place for it. Tomorrow morning we’ll see if it works!

I’ve been having fun with my Blythe doll too. I’ve made a couple of things for her. We also had a little photo shoot yesterday. I’ll share all that in a post tomorrow!

I’m looking forward to next week. Like I said, I now have the time to focus on new projects and I feel the itch to start doing things. June’s going to be an awesome month! It is one of my favorite months after all.

My week

This week Rob and I were in  Japan!! We kept it a little hush hush on the internets so no one would see that we’re gone and break into our house. But now we’re back and I can talk about it freely!!

I kept a blog while in Japan, talking about what we did each day and post lots of photos. I’ll keep posting in it for a bit, talking about different things that we saw, learned and such.

Check it out: Go Suzilla!

So yeah, that’s basically my week!

My week

This week flew by real fast, so fast I can’t really remember what I didO_o; Rob’s been really busy with after work freelance, so I’m pretty much on my own.

I got around to doing another Style School project. Customizing panties! With some fabric paint, I made a heart with our initials. I think it turned out cute.

Then I customized my suitcase that I bought for Japan. We needed to do something that set our suitcases apart at the airports. I did a kitty;3 Rob did a robot and it turned out way better: P I’m happy how mine looks.

Movie of the week:

Kamekazi Girls: This was a super fun and cute Japanese movie about two japanese girls who I almost complete opposites, but they become friends…you know how that goes. Great fashion and I nice glimpse of normal japanese life. Can you tell I’m excited about Japan?

The Onion Girl by Charles deLint: I finally get to start another book! It’s not the next Newford book after Memory and Dream, but it’s one that I actually own and since you really don’t need to read them in order, I decided to start reading this one. It’s about a girl named Jilly, who was in Memory and Dream and it’s her story in Newford and that’s kind of all I really know. So far it’s decent and the fantasy aspect of it is they can travel to the fantasy world, but mostly through dreams I guess. In fact, I think I’m going to read a bit of it now.

My Week

This week was a pretty darn good week! I’m so loving this time of year, more sunshine, more day light, warm weather. It all makes me want to do stuff! I’m also loving Tumblr! Look at all the posts I’ve done this week! I actually posted everyday! It’s just so easy and quick to do: )

Besides all that I’ve posted, Mother’s Day presents and hair cut, I still did a quite few more things. I spent the last half of the week trying to sew a pair of pants. Unfortunately, I’ve made myself way too stressed out trying to finish it and I’ve made a few mistakes (which I learned later was because of misprinted instructions). Also, I don’t know if it was because of my sewing errors, but they were pretty tight around the tummy area. It’s sad because at first glance, these pants look fine, but they’re not. I put them away and come back to them in a few weeks or so, seeing if I can save them.

Both moms loved the gifts I made them: ) My mom already has her coasters on the coffee table and Rob’s mom will hopefully use her pillow on their road trip this week. My mom told me I should make my dad a neck pillow for Father’s Day, I think that would be a great idea!

Today, Rob and I took the dogs to Latta Plantation. A historic site that has hiking trails, picnic areas and a lake to fish and take your boats on. It was our first time there and we just loved it! We spent about an hour or so walking the trails. It was so nice and the dog enjoyed themselves very much. We went down to the shore and Molly was totally excited to go in the water, which she hates when she’s at home, hee hee. And it’s so close to us that we’ll be going a lot. We’ll also have to have a picnic there, visit the raptor center and the plantation itself.

Movie of the Week:

The Truman Show: This is one of my favorite movies! I first saw this in the movie theaters and a few times after that. I love the look and feel of this movie, all it’s modern retro costumes and sets. And Jim Carrey is just great in it. I really like him in more serious roles, ‘specially this movie and The Eternal Sushine of a Spotless Mind.

Book I’m Reading:

Memory and Dream: Oh yes, I am still reading this! I only have about 40 pages to go. Can I finish it before it’s due on Wednesday?! hee hee. I am enjoying it, but I’m finding the main character a little annoying and wish I could slap her and say, “Hello?! Seriously??”. But I’m learning other characters in the story want to do the same. Can’t wait to start reading another Newford book and really get to know the city and more of its awesome creatures.

Hello Tumblr and My Week

Pardon the dust and mess, but I’ve switched over to Tumblr! Seems a bit easier and nicer to work with. Going to have fun this next week figuring it all out.  Although, as you can see…all the images from old posts are gone. Rob’s helping me the switch over, which is awesome since I don’t know all the back end stuff.

So!! On to my week!

Things are back to normal with work and all. Yay for more time and weekends! Eating dinner with Rob on Thursday was such a delight! It felt so nice to sit and talk with him and eat a home cooked meal. I do have to say, it wasn’t so rough at work, but those long nights do get to you.

This week was also one year since we’ve been in our house. And the first time in 3 years that we’ve stayed in one place for more than a year! This summer I vow to really do more to the house! We have a lot of work, but once it’s done…this house will be that much more perfect: )

I’ve been a busy bee with crafting this weekend!! I finally started on some projects I’ve been wanting to do.

Here’s a Style School project I’ve been waiting to do. It’s a cover for a sketchbook. The original project has a big pocket that wraps around the entire book, but I just made a small pocket enough for a pencil and pen. I stitched a maneki neko because I’m taking this book with me to Japan this summer:3

Another thing I made for our trip is a neck pillow! I found this pattern in the Sew Darn Cute book. I ran out of stuffing, so it’s not quite finished, but I think it’s way cute. I’m also making one for Rob’s mom for Mother’s Day.

I also made a cozy for my Nintendo DSi. This is something I’ve been meaning to do for over a year now. It’s not exactly what I wanted to make, but I do like how it turned out! It’ll definitely keep my DSi nice and safe. The patch is a vintage boy scout patch I bought a while ago: )

I just barely started sewing my pants/capris. I bought the wrong zipper foot for my sewing machine and I can’t do anything with the pants until the zipper is sewn. I hate sewing zippers, btw and I’m pushing my myself to not be lazy and make excuses and just sew these pants! It’s going to be hard and take a long time, but I know I’ll be so happy when I’m done!

We’re getting pretty excited about our trip to Japan! We’ve been looking at websites, reading through travel books and even studying Japanese on our way to work. Not only our we going on our dream trip, we’re going on a trip that’s just me and Rob some place that’s not family related or anything. Something we don’t do very often. So it’ll be nice to get away just to two of us for a while.

Movies:

Lost in Translation: Rob’s never seen this and I haven’t seen in in forever. We thought it would be fun to watch this movie knowing we’ll be going to Japan ourselves soon. I just adore Scarlet Johansen in this movie!

Books:

Memory and Dream by Charles de Lint: I actually was going to just stop reading this book because it feels like I’m never going to finish it and it got pretty disturbing and violent, which I didn’t care for much. But I kept it and I’m going to finish it! Rawr!
