I thought I would start a 52 weeks photo project this year. Piper, my Blythe doll, thought she would be the perfect subject. I couldn’t say no.
So here’s Piper for week 1. She’s wearing a top and dress I had just sewn for her using Simplicity pattern 2353.

I crocheted Piper a hat! I used the Holly’s pattern for it. It was super easy to make! She also has instructions to make it into a baby’s hat, since Blythe’s heads are that big^_~
I haven’t been doing anything with Piper lately. Sewing Mr. Fox has been taking up my time and it’s gets so hot in my craft room, that the last thing I want to do sometimes is sit up here and sew and iron. But I would like to share a dress I tried making!

This is me not understanding the way doll clothing is constructed and trying to add my own elements (ribbon collar) without thinking how it would work. So Piper’s dress ended up looking like a plaid potato sack! That’s ok though! I love learning from my mistakes. Because when I make a mistake, I sit and ponder the mechanics of what went wrong and how I can fix it for next time. Sometimes we just blow through things without actually thinking what we just did.
Anyways! I found a little crocheted hat pattern that I’d like to try making this week. Although I’m sure the last thing Piper wants to wear in this heat is a crocheted hat^_~

I’ve changed my Blythe’s name to Piper. While I like the name Hana, it just didn’t click. We saw Iron Man 2 and I thought Gwen or Pepper would be good since she does look like Pepper Pots, but then I’d always be reminded of Iron Man. Then Piper popped up since I was thinking of Pepper and the name felt real good! It’s a happy and sweet name^_^ We’ll call her Piper Hana!
I tried out making some clothes for her this week. I first tried my own whatever pattern, which failed. Then I found a few patterns online and thought of making some of those first, learn her body and proportions and get the hang of sewing doll clothes. Sewing doll clothes is tricky! It’s tiny sewing and different tricks to get it to look right.
Here’s what I’ve made for her:

Cute little summer empire dress from Puchi Collective.

I made this skirt myself. It was supposed to be a tank dress, but didn’t turn out. So with a little fold, I made a skirt with a front pleat!
Also. I have to say, Piper’s hair is so lovely now that I washed it. It’s a lot more softer.

Meet Hana. She’s my Blythe doll that I got from Japan. She’s a Cassiopiea Spice Blythe, the only Blythe I really wanted to get. In fact, she was the last one, on display, at Kiddy Land. I did see her at a couple more other stores later. Oh well, didn’t want the risk of not getting her.

She’s my first Blythe doll: ) I don’t know if I’ll do any customizations on her, like a lot of people do. I’m afraid to do anything to her since she cost a lot of money. But we’ll see.
I do plan on making her outfits and accessories! And of course take plenty of photos.

I already got her another outfit. It’s a Re-Ment outfit and I just happened to get the one I really wanted. Re-Ment are toys usually miniatures of foods and such, and they come in a package where you don’t know what you’re getting. They make a few outfits that fit Blythe dolls.

Actually, I guess you can say I did do a small customization on her. I washed her hair so it could be a bit smoother and softer. I used the warm water and shampoo method. I used Aussie’s shampoo for oily hair which has a low PH. I do hope it turns out all right. Already I can see some of her waves are gone, but that’s ok. As long as it’s easy to brush and hangs/sits nicely. Even washing her hair makes me so nervous!!

After wash (still wet):

So, you’ll be seeing her around this blog more! I hope you enjoyed meeting her! By the way, Hana means flower in Japanese. I wanted a Japanese name since I got her on our trip and I wanted a name that didn’t sound too Japanese. Hana was also a character’s name of a show I watched on our last day in Japan.
