The inu-hariko (paper mache dog) is one of my new favorite symbols from Japan. It’s a good luck symbol for children, child birth and parenting. He’s also the mascot for the Toyko-Edo museum^_~
Now, before you get any crazy ideas, I’m not pregnant. But I’ve been wanting to do a painting of this little guy for a long while now. If it could bring good luck for anything kid related, maybe it’ll help with trying to get pregnant?
I made an animated gif of my process too: )

I finally finished the quilt I’ve been working on! (what since the fall??)
It’s my first quilt. I didn’t really follow any quilting rules or anything. I just did some math on how my pieces should measure, cut, then randomly sewed the pieces together. I used all scrap fabric, which was challenging since I wanted the color scheme to be somewhat consistent and I only had so much of each fabric.
And it may be on the small side…but it’s a blanket nonetheless and it makes me happy sitting there with it on my lap. I just imagine having this blanket around for a long time, having the kids sleep with it, use it for picnics and all that fun stuff.

And it’s something else that I completed off my list!

Earlier this week I wasn’t feeling so well and stayed home from work. While I spent most of the day on the couch, I did manage to take the dogs on a walk because the weather was just too nice and fresh air helps one feel better.
There’s a small playground by the trail I walks the dogs and I thought it would be nice to swing on the swings a bit. Fresh air helps and so does doing something childlike and comforting. It was nice just swinging, alone with the sun shining. I suggest every go out and hit the playground and tell me if you don’t feel better.

I did it! I ran my first race this morning! It was the Hit the Brixx 5k. Rob ran, my friend ran, her husband ran, my boss ran, his sister ran, my other boss ran, our tech guys ran…it was awesome! My time? I did very good! I ran around 34 minutes. I had to walk a bit, but I ran most of the way. I’m proud of myself! And I would like to run more races.
Afterwards, there was the celebration! I had some fresh made seedy healthy bread from Great Harvest bakery. Then free beer from the local brewery Carolina/ Cottonwood Brewery…who was giving out (omg my fav.) Cottonwood Pumpkin Ale. It feels awesome to have beer after a run! There was also pizza from Brixx and some oranges and such.

Omg and how cute do I look?!

Rob’s currently driving from Texas to North Carolina with his baby brother, so what better time to stay in my pjs and watch stuff all day! Here’s a list of what I watched: - end of Rosemary’s Baby - the first episode of Hoarders - This Emotional Life (a PBS doc about human emotions) - A couple episodes of Parenthood - New in Town (which I couldn’t even last 20 minutes, that awful) - Music From Another Room (see a young Jude Law!) And that’s about it. Most of this was all on Netflix Instant which is super cool. Suzy’s 30 things while 30 list: 1. C 2. Go camping 4. Design my own Blythe outfit 5. Sew a stuffed toy 6. Last night I watched Rosemary’s Baby for the first time. It’s one of those movies that everyone talks about, everyone references and jokes about. So I gave it a shot.
I actually quite liked it. I loved the first half of the movie and Mai Farrow is just adorable! I thought the ending was a bit hokey…but that was 1968.
I really enjoy watching older movies, the pace is just so different. Movies back then were slower, it gave you time to observe, think and get to know the characters. Movies now are almost made to just stimulate you with action and fast talking, gore and bam bam bam!!
Two paws up! Suzy Cat recommends Rosemary’s Baby;3

I did something off my list! Tonight for dinner I made a frittata! It was a pizza inspired frittata from the book Eat Cheap but Eat Well by Charles Mattocks (omg, love this book!).
Ok, so it wasn’t the fancy veggie filled frittata that I had imagined making, but I couldn’t resist making this one. And it was very yummy and Rob liked it too! I love the idea of making like a pizza, you can add so much to it like ham, different veggies, cheeses, basil. I can’t wait to make it again.

This weekend I finally broke out my wood burner. This was the first time I ever used it. Yeah…wood burning is not that easy. It’s hard to get a steady line, but practice makes perfect.
I burned this maneki neko and colored it with marker.

I finally did something off my 30 Things While 30 List!
For the past week I have been putting together a puzzle. It’s this Americana puzzle Rob’s mom got me a couple years ago.
I have I say, it was a lot of fun doing it. It’s nice to just sit there, quite relaxing even. It also gave me a chance to listen to some music that I bought. I will always think of this puzzle when I listen to A Fine Frenzy’s One Cell in the Sea. I really hope to start doing more puzzles.

30 things to do while 30! Today I…
17. Dye Hair
I dyed my hair this weekend! I used Manic Panic’s Red Passion. I knew it wasn’t going to be truly magenta, but I like how I looks over my natural hair color.
Thinking about getting some bleach highlights and dying those fun colors.
*we’ve been busy this week, but i have lots to post about! stay tuned: )
