Run #5

Today’s Goal: Run 4 miles

Run Length & Time: 4.01 miles in 00:47 minute, with a pace of 11:23

How I Felt: I felt pretty good! I’m loving these new shoes, I’m starting to feel a difference in running with them.

Calories Burned: 365

Notes: Today I got to use my new (used) Garmin Forerunner 110. It worked perfect! It’s nice to have easy access to your time, distance and pace. Later this week I’ll test out the heartrate monitor.

REI Garage Sale

This morning Rob and I got up dark and early and headed to our local REI store for their garage sale, a members only sale where you can buy used and returned items at crazy prices. REI is extremely generous with their returns when you are a member, you can return something dirty and worn with no questions asked. Whatever, more stuff for me to buy at the sale!

We got there at 7:30am, 2 1/2 hours before they opened. People had actually set up tents and camped out over night. When we got there, the line was past the building and into the parking lot. Now I went last Nov, got there around 30minutes early and was up near the front of the line. Crazy.

Once 10am hit, the doors opened and people started being let in into the back storage area. Gear, bike racks, strollers, backpacks, camping gear, clothes, shoes, watches….anything and everything! Worn, dirty, damaged, broken zipper, missing buttons or just the person who originally bought it didn’t like it. I headed straight to the clothes and found a bunch of tops for super cheap. I wish I found some shoes, but it was slim pickings by the time I got to that section, which was like 10 feet away from the clothes. Rob tried looking around at outdoor gear, but it was just way too packed. But in the end, we scored some awesome things for me!

I got all these tops and hoodies for just under $5 a piece! Now these are good quality outdoor clothes made with wicking material, fleece and even wool.

-Pink Plaid button up: Originally it says $22, but I think it was more. It was a display item, no damage.

-Teal top: Org.$35.50, returned for a stain. I just put some stain remover, washed it and now it’s gone.

-Pink Long Sleeve Running Shirt: Org.$29.50. It just said used, nothing wrong. Granted, it’s a bigger size that what I wear, but whatever, running isn’t a fashion show and I’ll be warm.

-Orange Wool Button Up Sweater: Org.$44.83(this had to be more too), the person didn’t like the fit. It fits me just fine. It’s pretty pilly, but whatever, it’s warm and wool…and $5

-Grey Zip Up Hoodie: Org.$49.50, seam stitching under the arm came undone. I’ve got a sewing machine, I’ll stitch that right back up!

and the bestest buy today!

-Garmin Forerunner 110 with Heartrate Monitor: Org. $200, I got it for $60. Reason returned, says the person believed it wasn’t calculating correctly. A friend told me a firmware update should fix that….if it was even funky to being with.

I got Rob a Garmin running watch last time, said it didn’t hold a charge…worked totally fine. Their loss, our gain.

Fun Fact: I almost bought a pair of used fitness underwear for $2. Yeah…

Overall it was totally worth it! It’s awesome that REI does that! It’s putting good use the stuff that might’ve just been eventually thrown out. And when it comes down to a fantastic deal, people really don’t care what condition it’s in. Or who last wore those underwear.

School Work

I love how I said that I couldn’t wait to post my projects that I’d do in school. Pfft. Truthfully, I haven’t been doing a lot of projects, each class we’ve done about 3 big projects. And sometimes, they are kind of boring to share, like do you really want to see my personas and revised light rail map? Fun to me, not fun sharing material.

Of course as this quarter winds down (2 more weeks!) and finals approach, we are working on some fun stuff.

This is my final project in Typography. We had to come up with 30 thumbnails of certain design characteristics using just letters, then enlarge and retrace 4 of the best. This project was so much fun!

Run #4

running banner

Today’s Goal: To try out my new shoes

Run Length & Time: 2.8 miles in 00:31 minute (estimated)

How I Felt: The core strengthening exercises I do at the chiropractor is making me sore all the time, so running is not as smooth as I’d like it to be.

Calories Burned: Around 300

Notes: I got new shoes!! I got the Brooks PureConnect, which are awesome. They are super light and just fun. I really feel they are going to improve my running form.

Nike+ just crapped out today. Say I only ran .78 miles, but I ran the same distance I did last week. I think it might’ve been because I turned off my iPhone screen. Oh well.

Run #3

I found out that my Nike+GPS app is off by .3 miles. That’s huge! So those last couple runs, not 4 miles, more like 3.5. Oh well, now I know.

Yesterday’s Goal: To run with Rob in the Business Park

Run Length & Time: 3.49 miles in 00:42, with an average 12:00 minute mile

How I Felt: It was a good run, but it still wore me out. I ran further than I did the previous times and that was good. Having Rob there helps: )

Calories Burned: 441

Notes: The REI by us is having their members only garage sale and we’re hoping to find a used Garmin there for cheap. I got Rob’s for $55 (org $300) at the last garage sale. Also, I tried on the new Brooks PureConnect, these shoes are awesome! These will be the next shoe I get.

Run #2

Today’s Goal: Just run and focus on keeping my core engaged.

Run Length & Time: 4.1 miles in 00:35

How I Felt: I felt awesome! I don’t know where this is coming from, but I like it. And here I thought I’d have to slowly build myself up to a 5k and I’m going past it.

Calories Burned: 350

Notes: I started my 8 week treatment at the chiropractor this week. I have a funky vertebrate in my lower back that dubbed me an anomaly, whee. So, we’re going to work on strengthening my core and the surrounding area to help support the problem spot. I’ll also be given tools to help my body and back when running. Very curious and excited to see how my back will be after all this. This is something I have been dealing with for over 10 years now.

I won!

“What this big box?”, asks Molly.

Last weekend at Myrtle Beach at the marathon’s expo, I entered a raffle to win a huge gift basket from Bi-Lo (a regional supermarket).

And I won!!

OMG, goodies galore! They call it a marathoner’s recovery gift basket, so it was filled with a bunch of heathy stuff.

I’m completely amazed of how much stuff we got. There’s coconut water, energy bars, Kashi treats, popcorn, chips, fruit chews, granola, Aveno products, epson salt, Icy Hot patches, vitamin chews, massage rolly bar, treats, treats and more treats, even a $50 gift card to Bi-Lo itself!

What’s funny is almost every item I was like, “I was going to buy that! We need that! Ooh I saw those and wanted that.” All of these products are things that we’ll use, which is awesome.

I’m SOOO grateful to Bi-Lo for sending us this amazing gift basket.

And if you say to yourself, “Wow, I never win anything.” I used to be like that too! And then I thought, there’s always a winner. Why shouldn’t that winner be you? Just start entering contests! Good luck!!

I am in love with this show! It’s called Playful Kiss and it’s a korean drama (but it’s a comedy) about a girl, Oh Ha Ni, who has a huge crush on this guy who say he hates her and she and her father ends up living with the and his family. Imagine how he feels about that.

It’s such a sweet show and pretty funny. The actress who play Oh Ha Ni is just super adorable!
